At Chapman University, we are passionate about shaping the next generation of vocal artists in a caring community environment. Our renowned Opera Chapman ensemble and esteemed faculty offer a world-class vocal performance education designed to prepare undergraduates for dynamic careers in the ever-evolving music industry.

Experience Opera at Its Finest Our students perform in the stunning Musco Center for the Arts, a state-of-the-art venue that rivals any professional stage. Opera Chapman’s productions span the spectrum from classic operas to contemporary pieces, giving our students the diverse, hands-on experience they need to thrive. Recent productions have included Mozart’s Il sogno di Scipione, Massenet’s Cinderella, and Robert Moran’s From the Towers of the Moon (West Coast premiere). This spring, don’t miss our French double bill Paris, je t’aime!—featuring Un mari à la porte by Jacques Offenbach and La cabine téléphonique by Claude Arrieu in a world-premiere staged production!

A Unique Program with Undergraduates in the Spotlight At Chapman, all performance opportunities go to undergraduates, making our program one of the most exciting in the country. From intimate opera scenes to grand full-scale productions, our students shine. The Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance focuses on classical training but also embraces elements of pop, jazz, and musical theater. Our students even create and perform their own musicals and a cappella shows, ensuring there’s never a dull moment on campus.

Join the Harmony of Chapman Choirs Our vocal offerings extend beyond opera to include three extraordinary choirs: University Choir, University Singers, and University Treble Choir. Each ensemble provides students with diverse performance experiences, whether mastering large choral works or performing intimate chamber pieces. These choirs frequently collaborate with major orchestras and perform at prestigious venues, ensuring our students receive top-tier choral training. With passionate direction from our esteemed choral faculty, you’ll find your place in a vibrant community of singers honing their craft.

Unmatched Opportunities in Beautiful Orange County Our picturesque campus is located in the heart of Old Towne Orange, a vibrant area full of charming shops, restaurants, and cultural events. Just 10 minutes from Disneyland, a short drive to the beach, and close to mountains for skiing, our students get the best of Southern California living. This fall, Disney’s casting team will be visiting our campus for a mock audition and panel discussion, offering insight into performance opportunities with the entertainment giant. We also partner with L.A. Opera through their L.A. Opera Connects and Community Circle programs, offering students the opportunity to participate in the rehearsal process and attend world-class opera performances!

Exceptional Faculty and International Connections Our voice faculty includes internationally acclaimed opera singers who have graced stages from the Metropolitan Opera and L.A. Opera to houses abroad such as the Royal Opera House, the Opéra Comique, and the Théâtre des Champs Élysées. Our students work directly with these experts and regularly engage with master clinicians and industry professionals, preparing them for the next step in their careers. Recent clinicians include the legendary Kelli O’Hara and alumnus Duke Kim.
