»International Transfer Applicants

The following information will help you determine if you need to apply as an international transfer applicant and how to do so.

Are you an international student?

You should apply to Chapman as an international transfer applicant if all of the following apply:

  • You are a non-U.S. citizen or non-permanent resident.
  • You are in the USA on an active non-immigrant visa type (i.e. F, J, A, E, H, K, L, R).
  • You have completed secondary school, have studied or are currently studying at a post-secondary institution, and have not completed the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree.

Applying as an international transfer applicant

As an international transfer applicant, the first step of applying to Chapman is applying through the Common Application

After submitting the Common Application, the following steps are required to complete the application process:

Submit English proficiency test scores

To demonstrate your English language proficiency, you must submit official test scores directly from the testing agency or examination board from one of the following:

  • Duolingo English Test: Minimum score requirement: 120
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): Minimum score requirement: 80 iBT (with balanced sub scores) 
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System): Minimum score requirement: 6.5 (with balanced sub-scores)

Applicants who are applying from a US community college or university may qualify for an English proficiency waiver if they have completed at least 24 transferable semester hours. Applicants can submit the English Proficiency Waiver Request form in your application portal after you have submitted the Common Application.

Submit official academic documents

You must provide official academic documents from all secondary schools, pre-university programs, and universities/colleges attended.

Official academic documents include:

  • Official transcripts or grade reports (Chapman internally evaluates all received official transcripts. We do not require outside evaluations). 
  • Graduation certificates (if applicable).

All documents must be in English or accompanied by an official translation and sent directly by the institutions to be considered official.

Official academic documents must come directly from the issuing institution. Unofficial documents and student submissions will not be accepted for an admission review.

Chapman University expects students to prepare work that is their own, factually true, and honestly presented. Chapman University does not contract with, nor is represented by, non-Chapman entities in the recruitment and admission process.

International Supplement Form

Chapman is a need-aware institution and considers the ability of a family to afford the costs associated with studying at Chapman when finalizing admission decisions for students. 

Therefore, all international transfer applicants are required to submit anInternational Supplement Form and supporting bank documentation part of the application.

The form will be available in your application portal after you have submitted the Common Application.
