» University Policy Development and Publication Policy

POLICY STATEMENT

All University policies must be developed, approved and published in accordance with the standards outlined in this Policy and must be published on the University's central policy webpage.

REASON FOR THE POLICY

The purpose of this policy is to establish a clear pathway for policy development, approval and publication.

POLICY

The office responsible for the policy will propose the new or revised policy to the Senior Staff member to whom the department, school or college reports. As of the publication of this policy all future proposed policies will be submitted using the Standard Policy Template. The Senior Staff member who receives the proposed new or revised policy reviews it and submits the policy to the Office of Legal Affairs for review and feedback and decides what other steps they will require before they approve the policy to be presented to the Senior Staff. The appropriate Senior Staff member then submits it to the entire Senior Staff for review and comment. After review and comment by the Senior Staff the President will decide whether to approve the policy. If approved, the date of the approval is submitted to the Office of Legal Affairs by the Senior Staff member who presented the policy to the Senior Staff. The Office of Legal Affairs is responsible to record the approval date of the policy and to coordinate with the Information Systems and Technology Department and/or Strategic Marketing to post the approved policy on the University's central policy website and announce the publication or revision of the policy to the campus. All policies will be effective upon the date of publication.

If a member of a Senior Staff decides there is an urgent need to publish a policy before it is reviewed and approved by the Senior Staff the policy shall be published as an Interim Policy until a decision is made by the President. If a Senior Staff member decides that the format of the policy needs to vary from the template that may be approved by the President.
