» Integrated BA/MA in War, Diplomacy, and Society

The Department of History at Chapman University’s Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences offers an integrated BA/MA in War, Diplomacy, and Society. This program enables Chapman undergraduate students to begin taking graduate coursework during the senior year of their BA program and to complete the MA the following year. The program is open to all undergraduate majors that have satisfied the prerequisites for the program and meet the admissions requirements.

Sample Senior Year Course Schedules

  • History Majors
  • Non-History Majors
  • Fall (6 units)

    • WS 500: Historical Approaches to War and Society (counts as MA core requirement and either History BA 300-level course requirement OR elective towards 124 units required for BA)
    • HIST 596*

    Spring (9 units)

    • HIST 510: History Readings Seminar in War and Society (counts as MA Readings Seminar requirement and either History BA 300-level course requirement OR elective towards 124 units required for BA)
    • HIST 598*
    • Elective

    *Students completing the integrated MA in War, Diplomacy, and Society must select a topic (approved by the Graduate Program Director) for their undergraduate senior thesis and register for HIST 596/598 instead of HIST 496/498. Students will expand their senior thesis into the required Master’s thesis in the fifth year of study.

    • HIST 510: History Readings Seminar in War, Diplomacy, and Society

Students will expand their senior thesis or project into the required Master’s thesis in the fifth year of study.

Apply now using the Online Application

Students apply to the integrated program during their junior year or first semester senior year. Integrated program students must have either already earned 90 credits or be enrolled in and anticipate earning 90 credits earned before the first day of the graduate course(s) in which they wish to enroll.
