Contemporary Dance in Sicily

Cefalu, Sicily

This travel course provides the opportunity for Chapman dance students to work with Sicilian choreographers, teachers, studio owners, musicians, and local children toward a production hosted by the mayor of Cefalu in the historic Cicero theater built in 1816. In addition to learning repertory, teaching children, and performing in the production, the course includes an analysis of the city of Palermo through the eyes of the choreographer Pina Bausch, and excursions designed to deepen the ability to embody, interpret, and evaluate dance through historic and cultural contexts.
