Rinker Campus Health Sciences Study Commons

The Health Sciences Study Commons directly supports the research and teaching needs of the graduate students and faculty at the Harry and Diane Rinker Health Science Campus. The study commons provide print and electronic collections with an emphasis on health sciences. Collaborative study rooms and individual study spaces are available to facilitate coursework, studying, and research.

The Health Sciences Study Commons offers a core research and reference collection of with an emphasis on health sciences. The print collection at the Rinker campus is non-circulating, and is for use by students, faculty, and staff within the Health Sciences Study Commons. Faculty members are allowed to check out materials only with the permission from the health sciences librarian. Hours and Services:

The Health Sciences Study Commons in open 24 hours/7 days a week. During the hours of 7pm – 7am, a Chapman University issued ID is required for entrance to the study commons.

Persons currently affiliated with Chapman University may use the Health Sciences Study Commons.  Visitors, defined as persons not currently affiliated with CU, may use the Health Sciences Study Commons only under certain conditions, as defined in the study commons policies (https://chapman.libguides.com/study_commons)

Research Help:

Library Instruction

Librarians are available to provide course-based library research instruction sessions for your students. Several areas may be covered during an instruction session, depending on the needs of faculty and students. Examples include:

  • Finding sources for a particular assignment
  • Evidence Based Practice
  • Critical Appraisal and how to evaluate the  authority  and  credibility  of sources
  • Understanding stages of the research process and the publication types
  • Searching databases effectively and developing search strategies
  • Understanding the processes of scholarly communication and knowledge building

Individual Research Consultations

The Health Sciences Librarian is available to faculty, staff, and students for individual appointments. Please contact the health sciences librarian to schedule an appointment. Please refer your students to the librarian if they would benefit from guidance in finding relevant research materials.
