»Food and Drink at the Leatherby Libraries

The Leatherby Libraries allows covered drinks and light snacks in public spaces. Light snacks are considered quick bites that are not messy, noisy, or have a strong aroma that may distract those around you. If they disrupt the comfortable environment for study, research, or collaboration in any way, you may be asked to put the snacks away, move to the 1st floor Rotunda Café, or enjoy it outside of the building.

Please:
  • Be considerate of library materials and how they contribute to learning and research.
  • Only bring in beverages in containers with a top/lid.
  • Limit food to snacks, in small containers or packages, that do not emit strong aromas.
  • Clean up any trash or dropped food.
  • Report all liquid spills to library staff immediately.

Food and Drink is permitted at the following locations inside the library:

  • The 1st floor Rotunda Café.
  • Outside, on the 4th floor Fashionable's Terrace.

To preserve library collections and spaces, the following are not permitted:

  • Meals, such as sandwiches, pizzas, or heated food of any kind.
  • Food and beverage deliveries.
  • Alcoholic beverages.
  • Other items at the discretion of library personnel.

Food and drink are not permitted in spaces that hold particularly fragile materials, including but not limited to the Library Instruction Room (LL305), the Frank Mt. Pleasant Library of Special Collections and Archives, the California’s Gold Exhibit and Huell Howser Archives, the Center for American War Letters Archives, the Sala and Aron Samueli Holocaust Memorial Library, and the Oskar Schindler Archive. Event guidelines may differ.
