Conveniently located on the 2nd Floor of Beckman Hall within the renowned Argyros College of Business and Economics, the Janes Financial Center was established in 2012 with significant contributions from Mr. David A. Janes and the Chapman University Student Managed Investment Fund. The Janes Financial Center is a valuable asset for all business students, especially for students pursuing careers in finance.

Designed to cater to the diverse interests of our business students, the Janes Financial Center offers a specialized environment equipped with 12 Bloomberg terminals. These terminals provide students with real-time access to financial data, enabling in-depth market analysis, research projects, and skill development in areas such as portfolio management and financial modeling.

Bloomberg Training Sessions

Every semester, the Janes Financial Center hosts Bloomberg Training Sessions that are focused on equipping beginners with essential skills and knowledge to be confident to utilize the complex, yet powerful terminals. Throughout these 1-hour sessions, students gain proficiency in basic navigation, explore the most valuable functions on the Bloomberg Terminals, and register for the Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) Certificate. Through these introductory trainings, we aim to empower students, providing them with practical skills that are crucial for their academic and professional growth.

Bloomberg Certifications

Obtaining your Bloomberg certifications is both easy and complimentary for Chapman students, faculty, and staff. The process is straightforward: log in to the terminal, locate the Bloomberg Certificate function at the top of the screen, and you're ready to get started. But why should you consider becoming Bloomberg-certified? Obtaining the valuable certifications that are offered is a great introduction to finance and using the Bloomberg Terminals. The certifications are also noteworthy credentials to add to your resume, signaling your usage of the platform. Most importantly, it offers a unique opportunity to delve into the intricate mechanisms of financial markets, providing you with a deeper understanding of the financial world and enhancing your professional profile.

BMC  

The Bloomberg Market Concepts Certification, or BMC, is an engaging self-paced e-learning program that leverages the Bloomberg Terminal's power to provide an interactive introduction to the financial markets. With BMC, you'll explore essential topics such as economic indicators, central bank functions, bond valuation factors, and the effective use of Terminal functionality. This comprehensive course is structured into 8 sections, covering areas like Economic Indicators, Fixed Income, Equities, and Portfolio Management. It's a valuable resource for those looking to gain a deeper understanding of the financial world, all at your own pace.  

ESG 

The Bloomberg ESG Certification is a self-paced e-learning course designed for learners keen on implementing ESG strategies and preparing regulatory ESG reports from a buy-side asset management perspective. This comprehensive course covers key topics such as ESG integration in Fixed Income and Equities, shareholder activism, and sustainable finance. Participants will learn to analyze how asset managers incorporate ESG considerations into investment decisions, understand the impact of shareholder activism on corporate behavior, and master reporting on ESG investment activities for EU funds. Wall Street Prep Training

Wall Street Prep is a leading financial training provider offering a range of courses and programs designed to prepare students and professionals for careers in finance. Their training programs cover various areas such as financial modeling, valuation, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and private equity, among others. Wall Street Prep's courses are widely used by investment banks, private equity firms, and other financial institutions to train their employees and enhance their skills. The training provided by Wall Street Prep is highly regarded for its practical, hands-on approach, and it is especially popular among students and professionals aspiring to work in investment banking, corporate finance, and related fields. 

Financial Modeling and Valuation

Fadel Lawandy

Fadel Lawandy, CAIA is a financial expert with 30 years of experience in Investment Banking, Portfolio Management, corporate finance, and real estate and holds a B.S./B.A. in Finance and International Business from Chapman University and an MBA from Norwich University.

He is currently a professor at Chapman University and the Director of two centers: the Janes Financial Center and the C. Larry Hoag Center for Real Estate and Finance. Mr. Lawandy joined the George L. Argyros College of Business and Economics at Chapman University after retiring as an Executive Managing Director of HW Financial Group and Co-Founder/President of HW Capital Partners.

Fadel is also a frequent contributor to various publications, including the OCBJ, OC Register, and LA Times, and enjoys volunteering with nonprofit organizations to help his community be a better place to live and work.
