» Department of Theatre Talent Scholarship

The Department of Theatre Talent Scholarship is awarded to students show a high potential for success in theatre, as reflected in their application for admission and their interview, audition and/or portfolio review.

The scholarship is available for up to eight semesters for first-year students. For transfers, it is available for up to eight semesters minus the number of full-time equivalent semesters completed prior to enrollment. 

The terms and conditions for renewal of this scholarship are below. For all talent award recipients, no matter your degree path, be involved!

 

Scholarship renewal eligibility

Your scholarship is available for up to eight contiguous semesters if you continue to meet the following criteria throughout your years at Chapman:

  • Maintain full-time enrollment (12 or more credits per semester) and pursue in a timely manner one of the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Performance, or Bachelor of Fine Arts in Screen Acting.
  • If you are a BFA in Theatre Performance major, you are expected to audition for all departmental season productions.
  • BFA Screen Actors should be auditioning for films at the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, as well as stage productions.
  • If you are a BA in Theatre with an Area of Theatre Technology, you should be involved each semester in departmental season productions.
  • Enroll in a minimum of one theatre class per semester. The Department of Theatre Chair must approve any substitution or alteration to this requirement at the time of registration, or, at the latest, the beginning of each semester.
  • Maintain a Chapman University cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0. Students who fall below this University GPA for two consecutive semesters will lose their scholarships.
  • Participate in special theatre activities such as master classes, guest speakers and on-campus performances.
  • Maintain a Department of Theatre cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.25 (calculated based on all theatre classes completed). Students who fall below this department GPA for two consecutive semesters will lose their scholarship.
  • Attend Department of Theatre Town Hall Meetings for majors each semester held the first Friday of each full semester from 12-1 p.m.
  • Be a contributing citizen of the Department of Theatre and, through your actions, support both the College of Performing Arts and this department that awarded you this money.
