Theme: Bible, Gender and Sexuality 

Founders Day is an annual event sponsored by the Office of Church Relations, connecting students, faculty and community members with an outstanding scholar in the area of religion (Founders Education Day) and a renewal and reunion event for Disciples of Christ and United Church of Christ people (Founders Day).

The Founders Day Scholar is Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, Vanderbilt University Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies, who is an international renowned scholar and teacher. She will offer two lectures.

The preacher is the Rev. Dr. LaTaunya Bynum, Chapman Class of ’76, who is the Regional Minister for the Northern California Nevada Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Ticketed event, free to Chapman students, faculty and staff
Three lectures by Dr. Michael Kinnamon and participant discussion.

Saturday, March 11, all day, various locations
This is a day to celebrate Chapman’s connection to our Founders, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and our ecumenical partner, the United Church of Christ. This a special day which highlights the talents of the Disciples on Campus students. This is a ticketed event and the hi-lights include:

  • A morning lecture on preaching by Dr. Frank Thomas
  • Prospective student and parent events
  • Worship with Dr. Thomas preaching
  • Lunch with the Disciples and UCC Church Leaders of the Year
  • Panel discussion between world faith leaders and Dr. Kinnamon
  • Chappy Hour for alumni, Disciples on Campus parents, prospective families and friend (additional fee required)

Most events will be held in or around the Fish Interfaith Center on Chapman’s main campus in Orange, CA. Rooms are available at the ALO Hotel. To receive the $119.00 Chapman Founders Day rate call (714) 978-9168 by 2/09/18. The rate increases after this date. Rate includes parking and full hot breakfast. The ALO Hotel is located at 3737 W. Chapman Avenue, Orange, CA  92868.

Founders Day is an annual celebration of the heritage of Chapman University, founded by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Since 2010 we are also officially related to the United Church of Christ. At Founders Day, we:

  • Learn from a renowned scholar;
  • Worship together, hearing a great preacher;
  • Recognize a UCC and Disciples Church Leader of the Year and celebrate their accomplishments;
  • Enjoy time with Disciples and UCC students from across the country;
  • Reconnect with Disciples and UCC alumni and parents of current students;
