Professor Micol Hebron opens an interdisciplinary pathway at the intersection of gender, women’s history, digital media, and cultural heritage. Through artistic studio research and pedagogy, Professor Hebron partners with the Ferrucci Institute to provide students with opportunities to study and represent gender equity in Italian culture through internships, research fellowships, and travel courses.
Professor Hebron’s creative research and artistic practices use digital media, computing, artificial intelligence, and augmented reality to explore and depict the present and historical places held by women, trans people, and nonbinary people. Her artwork uses the latest trends in digital media and image generation to highlight and offset gender inequity, bringing the important accomplishments of these communities out of the shadows and into the light.
Through a summer travel course to Italy, Hebron provides students with an immersive experience in Venice and the Veneto Region. In this course, students conduct on-site research and development for interactive augmented reality artworks. Students transform their research into creative educational materials that bring the rich history of women’s cultural contributions to local and tourist demographics.
