Merit scholarships are applied solely toward tuition. When awarding merit aid, Chapman
must follow all laws and regulations of federal and State of California aid programs.
Our merit scholarships are based on these rules, the information provided at the time
application, the number of applicants and the total funds available.
Academic scholarships are need-blind and awarded to meritorious students at the time
of admission based on performance on standardized tests, strength of curriculum and
the discretion of the Admission Committee.
Policies ensure that students with the same degree of eligibility will receive the same award. However, there are times when awards differ due to circumstances beyond the control of the Financial Aid Office. Such circumstances could include the academic program in which a student is enrolled or applications submitted with inaccurate or incomplete data.
Scholarship eligibility
In order to receive your scholarship, you must enroll as a fulltime (12 or more semester credits) undergraduate student.
Please contact the Financial Aid Office (finaid@chapman.edu) if you have a special situation that prevents you from meeting this requirement. Scholarship assistance is only available for study related to meeting the requirements for your first baccalaureate degree.
The size of your award is represented as an annual amount. If you enter Chapman during the spring semester you will be eligible for one-half the annual award.
Merit scholarship renewal
First year students are eligible for annual renewal of their merit scholarships for eight semesters of full-time undergraduate enrollment.*
Transfer student must also maintain full-time enrollment and can receive scholarships for eight semesters minus the number of full-time equivalent semesters attended prior to enrollment at Chapman.
All merit scholarship recipients must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 to renew their awards.
* Renewal qualifications for the Accelerated Pre-Pharmacy Experience Program (APEx) adhere to an abridged timeline. Please contact the department for details.
Non-eligible merit honorees
Merit scholarship honorees who accept tuition remission as a child of a Chapman employee or Tuition Exchange Scholarship recipients will not be eligible for merit funds.
