» Honors Exit Survey
The University Honors Program is designed as an interdisciplinary course of study. The literature on cognition and instruction identify four cognitive abilities as hallmarks of interdisciplinary learning: the ability to
- develop and apply perspective-taking techniques on a given issue
- develop structural knowledge or understanding of the complex, internalized organization of factual knowledge used for problem-solving
- integrate conflicting insights from relevant disciplines to produce a more comprehensive understanding of a particular problem or intellectual question
- produce a cognitive advancement or interdisciplinary understanding of a problem in ways which explain a phenomenon, solve a problem, create a product, or raise a new question more adequately than a single disciplinary understanding.
