Biography
Dr. Cintia E. Citterio joined Chapman University School of Pharmacy as a tenure-track
Assistant Professor of Biomedical Sciences in the Department of Biomedical & Pharmaceutical
Sciences in August 2023.
Citterio obtained two Bachelor of Science degrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Biochemistry, both with Honors, before earning her Ph.D. degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Biochemistry from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina (score: 10/10, Outstanding). She was later awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to pursue postdoctoral studies at the University of Michigan Medical School, where she was later promoted to Research Investigator in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology & Diabetes.
Citterio's teaching and mentorship portfolio includes teaching biochemistry, endocrinology, molecular biology and genetics to pharmacy and graduate students. She has mentored, advised, or co-advised several interns, and undergraduate and graduate students for their research projects.

Research Interests
Dr. Citterio’s research focuses on the molecular basis of hereditary disorders affecting
the thyroid gland, thyroid hormone formation, and the systemic impact of thyroid hormone
imbalances, which affect over 10% of the global population. Her work aims to enhance
the understanding of thyroid disease mechanisms to improve diagnosis and treatment.
Dr. Citterio's research is currently funded by the National Institute of Health, National
Institute for Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases and the American Association
of Colleges of Pharmacy. She has received recognition for her research, including
the 2024 Early Investigator Award from Endocrine Society, and has participated in
many invited talks at national/international conferences and research institutions.
