»Works-in-Progress Workshop Grant

Purpose of the Fund:

  • The Works-in-Progress Workshop Grant supports full-time tenured and tenure-track Wilkinson College faculty in hosting a workshop at Chapman University focused on their scholarly or creative work in progress.
  • Awards may not exceed $3,000 and are subject to the availability of funds.    Applications are accepted all year round.
  • The grant provides funding to bring external scholars, artists, authors, or other experts to Chapman to engage with the faculty member's work and provide substantive feedback at a stage when that feedback can help advance or strengthen the project prior to publication, submission, exhibition, performance, or another appropriate scholarly or creative outcome.
  • The workshop must take place at Chapman University. This grant does not provide funding for Chapman faculty to travel elsewhere to participate in or host a workshop.

How the Workshop Works:

  • Faculty may invite one or more external scholars, artists, authors, or other experts whose expertise is relevant to the work being developed. Invited participants should engage directly with the faculty member's work and participate in substantive discussion and feedback as part of the workshop at Chapman University.
  • The workshop may be structured in a manner appropriate to the faculty member's discipline and project; however, its primary purpose must be focused engagement with and feedback on the faculty member's work in progress.

Use of Funds:

Funding may be used for reasonable expenses associated with bringing external participants to Chapman University, including:

  • Honoraria for external guests, up to $500 per guest. Honoraria may only be paid to external guests participating in the workshop. Chapman University faculty and staff are not eligible to receive an honorarium through this program.
  • Airfare or other reasonable transportation for external guests traveling to Chapman.
  • Lodging for external guests.
  • Local transportation for external guests.
  • Meals or catering directly associated with the workshop.
  • Other reasonable expenses directly related to hosting the external guest(s) and conducting the workshop at Chapman.
