- The Faculty Late-Breaking Opportunity Fund provides limited support for unexpected, time-sensitive scholarly, creative, or professional opportunities that could not reasonably have been anticipated or planned for through Wilkinson College's regular funding opportunities.
- A late-breaking opportunity is one that arises with limited notice and requires a timely response in order for the faculty member to participate. The fund is intended to help faculty take advantage of meaningful opportunities related to their scholarly, creative, or professional work that they otherwise may have to decline because there was not sufficient time to seek funding through the normal application process.
- Full-time Wilkinson College faculty may request up to $1,500. Applications are accepted throughout the year and are subject to the availability of funds.
What Is Considered a Late-Breaking Opportunity?:
Examples may include:
- An invitation to participate in a scholarly or creative opportunity received with limited advance notice.
- An unexpected opportunity to collaborate, conduct research, access materials or collections, or participate in a professional activity that requires travel or other expenses on short notice.
- A time-sensitive opportunity directly related to a faculty member's scholarly or creative work that could not reasonably have been anticipated during the normal funding cycle.
These are examples of opportunities that may qualify. Each request will be reviewed and considered by the Dean based on the nature and timing of the opportunity.
What Is This Fund Not Intended to Support?:
The Late-Breaking Opportunity Fund is not a supplemental or alternative funding source
for expenses that are eligible through another Wilkinson College funding program or
that could reasonably have been anticipated and planned for in advance.
The fund is not intended to support:
- Conference travel or expenses eligible for the Faculty Conference Travel Grant.
- Visiting scholars, guest speakers, events, or honoraria.
- Subvention expenses.
- Teaching or pedagogical needs, including workshops, training, instructional materials, classroom activities, or other expenses associated with teaching a course.
- Additional funding for an activity already supported through another Wilkinson College internal funding program.
- Routine or recurring professional expenses.
All requests will be reviewed by the Assistant Director of Operations with final approval by Dean Keene. You will be notified via email about the outcome of your request.
