The uncontained wildfires in Los Angeles County have prompted mandatory evacuations and evacuation warnings in several cities. Currently, the Orange and Rinker campuses are safe and operable, and classes are in session. There have been no major issues on either campus, and we continue to monitor the situation.

You can find resources and the latest updates from Chapman below:

  • Faculty and staff impacted by the wildfires should contact their supervisors first to help navigate their situation, such as adjustments to their work schedule. HR offers different and additional resources to employees in need.
  • Chapman’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available by calling 888-293-6948.
  • Students can fill out and submit this form to log their needed support, and Student Affairs will help to route students to the appropriate departments.
  • The Office of Admission is working with prospective families who need more time or support with respect to important admissions deadlines.
  • For mental health, wellness and spiritual resources, we have a range of options for all community members.
  • For 24-hour assistance, contact Chapman Public Safety, (714) 997-6763. In an emergency, dial 9-1-1.

How to help support wildfire relief efforts - January 14, 2025

As we continue to track the Los Angeles wildfires, which have affected some of our own, we are providing information on how you can help, should you be interested and inclined to do so.

  • Please refer to the state of California’s official website on this matter (refer to the “How can I help?” section).
  • The American Red Cross is a standard bearer in emergency relief, and interested individuals can visit its website to learn more. In addition, there are several college-specific funds that are available to support the higher education community:
  • On campus, we are partnering with the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles. Donations can be made on Thursday, Jan. 16, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the canopies in the Sandhu Conference Center Lot (521 N. Center St., Orange Campus).
    • According to the YMCA, only the following items can be dropped off on campus at that time and location:
      • Folding tables
      • Diapers
      • Toilet paper
      • Non-perishable food/snacks
      • School supplies
      • Cleaning supplies
      • Trash bags
    • The above listed items can be dropped off at the Sandhu Conference Center Lot. You may drive there for a quick unloading so that we can enable a steady traffic flow (see map below).
    • Donations of clothing, shoes, towels, sheets or any open/used products cannot be accepted, per the YMCA.
    • Chapman will take responsibility for transporting all collected items to L.A. Thursday afternoon.
As a reminder, there are numerous Chapman resources available to assist our own community members as well.

We will continue to keep you updated. In the meantime, we appreciate your caring and community mindedness and wish you safety and health.

Message from President Struppa - January 11, 2025

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,

For Angelenos and the many other Southern Californians who are directly or indirectly impacted by the rash of wildfires that ignited and continue to blaze this week, the new year is not off to the start we had imagined. The devastation and destruction caused by these fires is not only gutting but also at a scale that many of us have not seen in our lifetimes. I’m just returning from travel and watched on the news, with horror, this week’s tragedy unfold.

We are still learning of how this natural disaster is affecting our Panther community, but we are already aware of some very personal losses, which are heartbreaking.

For any Orange or Rinker campus individuals who are impacted by these events or who have concerns about the proximity of the fires in your personal lives, there are resources available to assist you. Additionally, our Office of Admission is working hand in hand with any prospective families who need more time or support as we approach important admissions deadlines.
