When Chapman thrives, so does our hometown.

For over 70 years, Chapman University has been proud to be an integral part of the City of Orange. As neighbors, friends and partners, we have worked together to build a flourishing community that honors the past and looks to the future.

We are happy to share highlights from a recent study conducted by an independent economic research firm. As the numbers show, the university’s commitment to our partnership with the City of Orange has measurable, positive results. Chapman supports thousands of jobs and creates millions of dollars in essential tax revenues at the state and local levels and contributes to stable economic growth for the city. We sponsor cultural and artistic programs and provide social services that enrich the lives of everyone in our community.

The last 70 years have seen monumental changes throughout Orange County and Southern California, but what remains constant is that Chapman University and the City of Orange are stronger together.

Building a Stronger Community Together

Chapman University’s impact extends far beyond campus, strengthening the City of Orange through sustained investment, service, and partnership.

Through direct contributions and community engagement, Chapman helps support local services, expand educational opportunities, and enhance cultural life:

  • Almost 30% of Chapman’s staff and faculty live in the City of Orange
  • Over 110,000 annual hours of student fieldwork in local schools
  • An additional 60,000 hours of post-graduate service supporting community mental health and education
  • Nearly $600,000 in annual payments to the City of Orange to support municipal services
  • $188,000 in charitable giving across Orange County
Chapman also serves as a cultural anchor for the region. Institutions like the Musco Center for the Arts and the Hilbert Museum provide accessible arts and cultural experiences that contribute to Orange’s identity as a vibrant destination.

At its core, Chapman’s community impact is driven by its people. Students, faculty, and staff are active participants in the life of the city—working alongside local organizations, supporting neighbors, and building relationships that strengthen the town-gown connection.
