»Academic Achievement Program

The Academic Achievement Program within the Fowler School of Law is designed to minimize any confusion and frustration first-year law students experience by offering the following:

  • one-on-one faculty mentoring
  • undergraduate-to-graduate transition workshops
  • Essay-writing workshops in the 1L substantive law subjects
  • Additional instruction from advanced students (Academic Fellows)
  • Bar Exam Preparation

Such assistance helps students unlock the potential within them to achieve academic success in school, pass the bar exam, and become productive attorneys.

The Academic Achievement Program helped me bridge the gap between undergrad and law school by teaching me how to take notes, outline and prepare for a law school exam.

Mentoring and Workshops

Our Academic Achievement team conduct a series of skills workshops designed to help first-year students make the transition to law school. These workshops cover core skills such as course outlining, stress and time management, preparation for exams and exam writing.

In addition, the Academic Fellows – upper-level students with strong academic records – present weekly sessions in exam writing for specific first-year subjects, beginning before midterms and continuing through final exams in both 1L semesters.

Academic Fellows

Advanced students with excellent GPAs serve as Academic Fellows for first-year law courses and subjects like Evidence, Federal Income Tax, Corporations, and Constitutional Law. Academic Fellows hold weekly office hours to respond to student questions, lead review sessions and exercises in the substantive law subjects, providing feedback on writing and assisting students with their exam writing skills. Participation in the review sessions is open to all students and first-year students are strongly encouraged to attend these sessions regularly.
