About the Darling Law Library
The Hugh and Hazel Darling Law Library is an integral part of the academic and collegial experience at Chapman University’s Dale E. Fowler School of Law, helping students to become proficient legal researchers, and supporting faculty research, scholarship, and teaching.
The Darling Law Library’s collection includes numerous databases facilitating access to more than 2 million electronic resources—including federal and state primary authority, legal treatises, practitioner guides, legal encyclopedias, periodicals, and much more. In addition, dedicated Research and Instruction Librarians provide students with legal research strategies and resources, both at the law library’s research desk, during workshops, and as guest lecturers throughout the academic year.
Library Policies
Quiet Study Policy
Study Areas
The library strives to create an environment conducive to learning. As everyone studies differently, we have created a policy that attempts to provide everyone with a comfortable place to study.
Collaborative Study Areas—First Floor & Study Rooms
The first floor of the library and all our study rooms are designated for collaborative study. Feel free to work with your classmates at a conversational level. Please be mindful of your volume, especially when entering or exiting the library or a study room. Doors to study rooms should always remain closed while being used.
Quiet Study—Second Floor
The second floor is designated for quiet, individual study. Library users should refrain from conversation, collaborative study, or any other form of noisemaking on this floor.
Technology Noise
Please be considerate of your classmates when using technology in the library. Silence your cell phone and keep conversations short and quiet. If you must take a longer phone call, please leave the library.
Unless you are in a study room, you must use headphones while listening to any audio player.
Reporting a Noise Violation
It is the right and responsibility of all library users to enforce this quiet study policy. If you are uncomfortable doing so, you may report a noise violation by notifying staff at the Circulation Desk or email lawcirc@chapman.edu.
