Spanish Program



Overview

·         Spanish is the largest program in the Language Department

·         More than 700 students are studying Spanish in any given semester

·         90-100 students choose Spanish as their major or minor

·         Professors are dedicated to the communicative approach to language teaching and emphasize student participation

·         Class size is limited to 19-23 students for a more personalized instruction

 

In addition to introductory courses, more advanced, specialized and innovative courses have been developed by professors Hodge, Loustau and Valenzuela such as:

 

·         Spanish 440 Multidiciplinary Approach to Spanish Bilingualism

·         Spanish 484 Twentieth Century Spanish Poetry and Drama, Literary Pictures

·         Spanish 398 Twentieth Century Latin American Fiction, Journeys Across Memory

·         Spanish 484 Hispanic Theater in Dialogue with the Classics: a Workshop for Dramatic Creations

Spanish is widely spoken here in California and throughout the United States.  The Spanish section is dedicated to promoting culturally and linguistically competent citizens in our multicultural and multilingual society.
