Anne-Marie Pedersen received a Ph.D. in English with a specialization in composition and rhetoric from the University of Louisville in 2007. She also holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from George Mason University and a B.A. in English from the College of William and Mary. Her interests in world English and second-language writers led her to Jordan, where she conducted her dissertation research on the English-language writing of Arab students and scholars. At Chapman, she teaches a variety of courses in composition and rhetoric, including a course on writing centers and one on writing and identity. Her recent publication "Negotiating Cultural Identities through Language: Academic English in Jordan" won the prestigious Richard Braddock Award in 2011 for best article on writing or the teaching of writing in the nationally recognized journal College Composition and Communication. Her work also appears in Across the Disciplines and Writing Center Journal. Her co-authored article "Local Practices, National Consequences: Surveying and Re (Constructing) Writing Center Identities" won the International Writing Centers Association's Scholarship Award for Outstanding Article, 2006. She is currently working on articles about her dissertation research and on writing assessment.
