Chapman is such a welcoming school, and I wish I would have realized earlier to put myself in more situations to embrace the change that creates growth. It may seem overwhelming at first to get involved in a lot on campus, but it is also so rewarding with the strong connections you make with your fellow peers and you may surprise yourself how much of a leader you are once an organization sees your abilities and strengths and gives you the opportunity to become a leader and stronger person each and every day.

Chapman has given me invaluable opportunities. Whether I’m volunteering with students who share my passions, making valuable friendships and developing leadership skills in Greek life and on-campus clubs, or traveling abroad, Chapman has helped me achieve things I never thought possible. What makes Chapman University unique to you?
Chapman provides students with the opportunity and support to go after what they are really passionate about through various campus resources. There are several major and minor programs that aren't offered at most universities, such as women's studies, peace studies, and leadership. These programs foster life skill and a better understanding of the world, which helps set Chapman students apart.

Wait until the professor tells you the textbooks you will need for class because sometimes you won't need one, even though there is a book listed on the registration website. However, if you do need to order textbooks, Bigwords.com allows you to search for your textbooks and compares websites, such as Amazon, Chegg, Textbook Rush, etc. for you. It shows you the best price to rent or buy textbooks and has saved me hundreds, just be aware of the shipping time because sometimes a lower price means a longer wait.

I wish I knew more about the resources on campus. It wasn't until my second semester as a freshman that I found out about all of the tutoring and mentoring that is available. This would have calmed my nerves much more as an incoming student, and prepared me better for my freshman fall semester.

What makes Chapman University unique to you?
Chapman University is unique to me because there is something for everyone here. There are many resources for the career-oriented, many on-campus organizations for those who wish to get involved, and there's peace and quiet for those who seek that as well. For me specifically, I always somewhat knew that my strongest skill was leadership. This was never confirmed for me until I got to college and I learned a lot about myself that will always stay with me. What makes Chapman unique is that students here get to discover what makes them unique.

I wish I knew to keep an very open mind during my freshmen year. I was the quiet kid that would read Batman comics instead, and getting involved on campus took me a while. In the grand scheme of things, I have no regrets. Despite being a "late-bloomer", Chapman is still an amazing university where I found my place and passion!...also, I still read Batman comics.

Chapman University is what you choose to make it. For some of us, it was our top school; for others, it was not. No matter where it fell, it is your home now and, here, you will grow: as a student and as an individual. What you do with it is up to you--and that is truly unique within an academic atmosphere.

As a commuter student, I wish I knew right away that you need to take a more intentional approach to getting involved on campus. Chapman has an abundance of student organizations and clubs, each with so many things to offer. But, sometimes you have to seek out those opportunities rather than them coming to knock on your door...because your door is off campus. Maybe you need to ask around, hang out in the piazza during tabling, or apply for a position within the Student Government Association or the University Program Board. Whatever it may be, it has the potential to shape your Chapman experience for the better as well as you as an individual.

I've always gotten this comforting sense that, even though the school is fairly small, there are always more people to befriend. You learn a lot when you open a textbook or even a Netflix account, but you learn a whole lot more the second you close it to tell everyone else what you read or saw.

What makes Chapman University unique to you?
Chapman University is special because it can be whatever you want it to be. You can choose to make it academically rigorous and socially beneficial, or as "fun" (but educationally simple) as you wish. Given the breadth of opportunities at Chapman, there is a freedom to choose your path, the habits you will keep, and the person you want to be. Ultimately, the very act of making these decisions will help you grow.

What makes Chapman University unique to you?
Chapman University is one of the most student driven and student oriented colleges I have ever experienced. The student body is supported by the faculty, and is consistently encouraged to take charge leading community projects, clubs and organizations, and extracurricular activities. The support and amount of opportunities here are overwhelming in number, and the only downside is that there are simply too many to take part in!

One reason why Chapman is unique to me is due to my experience with doing research on postpartum depression cross-nationally among women with a team of talented students. We were able to present our findings at the Association for Psychological Sciences conference in May of 2014. I still value everything that I have learned from this experience along with the friendships I have made. Chapman has given me opportunities that I didn’t dream were possible.

As a senior now, I realize that with the right scheduling and planning (with help from the great professors and staff here at Chapman), studying abroad can be possible for any major. One time I met Lorne Michaels and told him I was going to write for him one day. Hopefully it's for his show and not a restraining order! *eye twiches*

Share something you wish you knew, but did not know, as a new student:
As a new student, I never knew how important it would be to just breathe. I put a lot of pressure on myself to get involved and achieve things as soon as I got on campus. Though I would never change the person I am, I now look back and realize that it's okay to sit back and be present with every first experience you have.

What makes Chapman University unique to you?
I find that Chapman students are passionate beyond belief about their majors and extracurricular involvements. Chapman students' dedication to their passions is inspiring, especially as an incoming student. As a freshman, I saw how excited upperclassmen were about their major and extracurriculars, which motivated me to become involved with academics and clubs that excite me.

Share an interesting fact about yourself:
On my bike route from the dorms to Dodge, I befriended a french bulldog who sits in his front yard every morning. Saying hello to him is always the highlight of my commute.

Try to meet as many diverse people as possible, branch out from your dorm floor and your major! Strike up a conversation with someone you don't know in a GE class. Pop into a meeting of a club that you haven't been to before. Sometimes it can be refreshing to talk to someone new, who isn't taking all the same classes that you are or that you've known from day one. And I always had to remind myself, everyone is in the same boat freshman year so don't be shy about reaching out to make a new friend.
