Honorable Tom Campbell

Professor Campbell joins Chapman in January 2009 as a visiting Presidential Fellow. Prior to joining Chapman, he was the Bank of America Dean and Professor of Business from 2002 to 2008 at the Haas School of Business. University of California, Berkeley. For 20 years prior to that, he was a Professor of Law at Stanford Law School, a member of Congress from 1989-1993 and 1995-2001, a member of the California State Senate from 1993-95, and the Director of the California Department of Finance from 2004-05. He has a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago, and his J.D. from Harvard, where he also served as a member of the Board of Editors of the Harvard Law Review. He was a law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Byron White; a White House Fellow; Executive Assistant to the Deputy Attorney General, Department of Justice; and Director of the Bureau of Competition at the Federal Trade Commission.

He has also been serving on the Governor’s Board of Economic Advisors with our own President Jim Doti and has taught at Ashesi University in Ghana, the School of Banking and Finance and the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology in Rwanda, and the University of Asmara in Eritrea. He has published in the Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, Texas, and UCLA law reviews and has a book on Separation of Powers that was published in 2004 by the Stanford press.

Courses taught: Antitrust, Legislation, and a seminar on Separation of Powers.
