Chapman University Dale E. Fowler School of Law's Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) is an organization dedicated to creating new and innovative opportunities for law students to engage in critically needed public interest work. PILF supports and promotes public interest work by funding law students who dedicate their time to serving our community through summer grants so they can serve in unpaid/volunteer positions in the public interest field.

PILF works to innovatively promote and support public interest legal work by educating, encouraging and providing financial support for law students to consider and explore careers and pro bono opportunities in public interest law during law school and beyond.

PILF is proud to honor Ashleigh Aitken for her dedicated service to the Orange County Community. Ashleigh Aitken is Of Counsel at Aitken * Aitken * Cohn, where she specializes in complex business litigation, class actions and major personal injury cases. She was the 2015 President of the Orange County Bar Association, OCBA Veterans & Military Task Force Chair, a founding member of OCBA’s Mommy Esquire Committee, and former President of Orange County Women Lawyers.




kathy-forbathM. Katherine Baird Darmer Commitment to Public Service Award

PILF is proud to honor Kathy Forbath Esfahani for her dedicated service to the underprivileged and underserved populations in Orange County. Kathy Esfahani is a Senior Judicial Attorney for the California Court of Appeal, 4th District, Division III. She helped found the Public Law Center of Orange County, and currently sits on the Board of Directors. She is also a founding member of the Costa Mesa Affordable Housing Coalition, and the Chairperson of the Finance Committee for Concern America.
