What’s New on Campus

Construction and Renovation
Chapman has seen many changes to campus in the past few years and this year will be no exception.

After the completion of the Ernie Chapman Field the expansion of our athletic facilities continues. The aquatics center and athletic complex will finish the current athletic facilities and should be finished within the academic year.

Residence Life is also making some important changes right now. A new residence hall will begin construction this year, mirroring the layout of the recently opened Glass Hall. In addition a new dining facility and residential gym facilities will be part of the new building. Chapman is also adding a recreational area to the residence area and should see the project completed in the first months of the academic year.

Chapman always offers it’s students a beautiful place to enjoy their college experience. Currently the university is renovating the quad between the Leatherby Libraries and Beckman Hall hoping to offer students a central meeting place on campus. The new quad will be finished in early October.

For more information on the current construction projects and live webcams of several of the projects please see construction update website.

Academics
Chapman University is always seeking to provide the best opportunities for its students. This year brings several important changes to academics at Chapman.

One noticeable change is the addition of the College of Performing Arts. The new college will host the Conservatory of Music and the School of Arts which includes the departments of Theatre, Dance and Art. For more information on the new College of Performing Arts please visit their website.

Several smaller changes have been made to the majors and minors offered in the fall, including the new Digital Arts major in the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts.

This year also introduces a new general education plan for our undergraduate students. The new plan will similar to our old general education but also focus on incorporating ideas from Chapman’s mission statement and values. This new plan will hopefully make it easier for students to obtain a double major or minor if they so choose. Students can view the new requirements here link.

Scholarships

Chapman University offers two kinds of non-need based scholarships; merit scholarships and talent scholarships.

Merit Scholarships
Merit scholarships are awarded to students at the time of admission. Scholarship eligibility is based of application information.

First Year Students
First year students are awarded merit scholarships based on their GPA and standardized test scores. These scholarships range from $7,000 - $22,000 depending on the student’s academic achievements. The admission committee will evaluate students for scholarships when they apply for admission and notify them shortly after admission notification.

Transfers
Merit Scholarships are awarded to transfer students based on their college GPA and curriculum.  These scholarships range from $5,000 – $10,000. The admission committee will determine if a student is eligible and notify them shortly after their admission notification.

Maintaining your Merit Scholarship:
All merit scholarship recipients must maintain a cumulative Chapman GPA of at least 2.75 and full-time enrollment. Students who do not meet these requirements will be unable to receive further merit scholarship assistance. Students who are no longer able to receive merit scholarship assistance are welcome to apply for other forms of financial aid such as the Chapman grants.

Talent Scholarships
Talent scholarships are available from the following departments; art, athletic training, creative writing, dance, English, film/TV, music, science, and theatre.

Students interested in being considered for a talent scholarship should contact the Office of Admission for information. Each department has their own criteria for receiving a talent award in that area. Talent scholarships vary greatly based on students particular interests and talent level.

Detailed information on talent scholarships can be obtained by the appropriate department by interested students.
