Matthew Schneider |
Matthew Schneider earned his Ph.D. from UCLA in 1991. He also holds a BA in English from the University of California at Berkeley, and an MA from the University of Chicago. Dr. Schneider is the author of two books: The Long and Winding Road From Blake to the Beatles (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008) and Original Ambivalence: Autobiography and Violence in Thomas De Quincey (Peter Lang, 1995), as well as numerous scholarly articles on 19th-century British literature, Biblical exegesis, literary theory, and popular culture. A two-time winner of Chapman's highest Faculty honor, the Valerie Scudder Award (1994 and 2001), Dr. Schneider has also served as the Chair of the Department of English and Comparative Literature (1999-2004), and is currently Associate Dean of Humanities for the Wilkinson College of Letters and Sciences. A past recipient of the Graves Award in the Humanities, Dr. Schneider was the Honors Lecturer in 2003, and in 2004 delivered the annual Aims of Education address. In addition to teaching courses on 19th-century British literature, Dr. Schneider teaches world literature, literary theory, and occasional special interest courses on the literature of baseball and the history of popular music.
