Chapman Alumni Association Awards

Several Members of Wilkinson College were honored this year by the Chapman Alumni Association.

Frank Delgadillo
BA, Legal Studies, 1996
2006 Young Alumnus of the Year

Frank's company, Ambiguous Clothing, began as VAGUE, a word unceremoniously taped above his bed in Pralle-Sodaro Hall. Frank graduated from Chapman University in 1996 as a Legal Studies major, but decided to forego a life of litigating in America's courtrooms to chase a dream: making a living doing something that makes him happy. In his case, this meant making clothes his friends would want to wear.
Frank's many friends, including artists, musicians, skateboarders, snowboarders and surfers came to define his product and company. His hard work and vision paid off, as Ambiguous achieved great success selling designs that stood out from current trends. He is currently working on an unconventional new marketing project, "Ambiguous Film Division," with the goal to further brand awareness while giving young artists a platform to display their works.
His community spirit and philanthropic heart has led him to assist kids in his neighborhood. Frank has also been generous with his free time by helping his alma mater in ways that include supporting the 2006 School of Education's Read Around the Clock fundraiser. Also, he shares his knowledge, expertise and unique business sense with our future global leaders in the business world by providing Ambiguous internships for Chapman University students.

K. Dean Echols
BA, Religion, 1946
2006 Bert C. Williams Lifetime Service Award

Dean (pictured middle below) was student body president in 1945-1946, and he has continued to serve his alma mater over the last 60 years. During his ministry in Disciples churches, he encouraged 54 students to enroll at Chapman. Dean's years of service include being president of the Chapman Alumni Association, 1975-1976; director of Alumni Relations, 1984-1986; and director of Church Relations, 1986-1987. He has also provided leadership to the 50 Year Club planning committee for many years. Demonstrating a lifetime commitment to Chapman University, Dean and his wife Mally are members of the Charles C. Chapman Heritage Society. Upon the passing of their son, James Echols '87, the family established a scholarship at Chapman University in his memory.
