INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEERING AND SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS

Alliances Abroad Group

Provides placements for paid and unpaid internships in China, England, France, Germany, Ireland, and Spain. The program also offers paid teaching positions in Brazil, China, Taiwan, Mexico, and Thailand. Specific program requirements and language abilities vary for each country. Program fee.

CDS International

Lists fellowships and work abroad programs for undergraduates and recent graduates in Germany, Bavaria, Singapore, Turkey, Argentina, and Switzerland. Specific requirements and language abilities vary for each program. Program fee. Program scholarships are sometimes available.

Cross Cultural Solutions

A non-profit, international volunteer organization that offers volunteer programs in Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Peru, Russia, Tanzania, and Thailand. The program allows participants to volunteer with local people on certain hands-on service projects. Program fee.

I to I

Provides opportunities to volunteer, teach, and work in Australia, Bolivia, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, England, Ghana, India, Nepal, Russia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uganda, and more locations. Positions vary in each country but can include teaching English, conservation, media, and health. Program fee.

Institute for Cultural Ecology

Provides unpaid internship placements and study abroad in Fiji, Hawaii, Nepal, New Zealand, and Thailand. Internship placements are in environmental conservation, marine biology, resource management, social advocacy, historical preservation, and culture. Program fee.

InterExchange

Provides work placements in Belgium, Bulgaria, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Spain, Italy, Russia, The Netherlands, and Ukraine. The program places participants abroad through cooperation with partner organizations and governmental agencies. Positions vary. Program fee.

International Medical Corps

Contains updated listings for volunteer placements with global humanitarian nonprofit organizations that provide health care training and disaster relief programs.

Internships International

Provides internships abroad to rising seniors and recent graduates. Opportunities are available in London, Paris, Dublin, Dresden, Budapest, Bangkok, Santiago, Florence, Melbourne, Shanghai, Glasgow, and other overseas locations. For the most part, positions are unpaid. Program fee.

International Workcamps

Workcamps bring together volunteers from around the world to work on various projects at sites throughout the world. Workcamps provide an organized service activity at very little cost to the participating volunteers. For information on Workcampus visit these sites:

Learning Enterprises

Learning Enterprises mission is to allow children in developing countries to access a wider world through interaction with individuals from other cultures and study of the English language as a tool for communication. L.E. sends energetic, creative volunteers to villages in Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia, Mexico, Mauritius and China to teach English for the summer. Volunteers live with host families and conduct free English language classes for children in rural communities. No program fee.

Peace Corps

Offers paid opportunities for United States citizens to work in the following areas around the world: education, youth outreach, and community development; health and HIV/AIDS; agriculture and environment; business development; and information technology. Within these broad areas, the specific duties and responsibilities of volunteers vary. Period of service is normally twenty-seven months.

Volunteers in Asia

A private, non-profit, non-sectarian organization dedicated to increasing understanding between the United States and Asia. Through a variety of programs based on the Stanford campus, Volunteers in Asia introduces the beauties and complexities of American and Asian culture to over two hundred students per year. These programs are devoted to exploring contemporary social issues in American society and aim to foster within students the skills they need to be international citizens and thoughtful leaders. While each of the programs varies in focus, each program encourages students to explore new cultures honestly and carefully through well-structured cross-cultural and service-learning programs.
