FAQs for Project IMPACT Tutors
What is Project Impact? Project Impact is a non-profit organization with several California locations including LA and Orange County. This program is part of the Federal Government’s No Child Left Behind (NCLB) program. It offers free tutoring for secondary school children. Project IMPACT has provided tutoring services in the Los Angeles area for over 17 years. Over 80% of the students served by Project IMPACT have improved their math and science scores by at least one grade level. Project IMPACT will serve at least 200 students in the Orange County school districts.
Who will I be tutoring? You may be tutoring elementary, middle, or high school students. They may or may not be from low income families. The ratio of children to tutors is no more than 5 to 1, so you will be able to give each child individual attention.
What will I be tutoring? If you become involved, you will not be tutoring homework. Tutors will be trained on a pre-established curriculum covering general skills in Mathematics, Reading, and Language Arts.
What is the time commitment? Each child will receive 30 hours of tutoring. Specific dates and times are flexible. Tutoring times will depend on your schedule as well as the schedules of parents and their children. You will most likely meet two times per week, and each session will last 1-2 hours.
