Project G.R.O.W. Project G.R.O.W. is a service-learning experience that provides participants with a unique opportunity to learn more about issues affecting our local community while also engaging in service that makes a significant difference in the lives of women. The Office of Service-Learning has partnered with Casa Teresa, a local temporary home for homeless, pregnant women, to create an experience unlike traditional volunteer placements. Through Project G.R.O.W., participants will learn more about issues such as homelessness and poverty as they relate to Orange County and the residents of Casa Teresa. At the same time, participants will have the opportunity to engage in and contribute to a local non-profit organization that has been a temporary home to more than 2,300 women. As a participant in Moving Forward, there are three different opportunities for involvement with Casa Teresa: Teaching a class Chapman students with an expertise or strong interest in any topic are offered the opportunity to teach classes to the residents of Casa Teresa. Some examples of class topics include: computer skills, budget management, interview and job skills, and goal-setting. Promoting Project G.R.O.W. on Campus Chapman students are needed to promote Project G.R.O.W. by helping to fundraise for Casa Teresa and coordinate special projects with the Office of Service-Learning. Assistant House Mom Chapman students are needed to assist House Mothers in their daily activities and duties. This experience provides participants with a behind-the-scene perspective of Casa Teresa’s operations and may allow for babysitting opportunities while mothers are in life skills classes.
