Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation

Description:

These scholarships support graduate or professional education for candidates who plan to pursue careers in government or elsewhere in public service. The Harry S. Truman Foundation seeks future "change agents" who aspire to leadership positions in federal, state, or local governments or in the not-for-profit and education sectors where they can influence public policies and change public programs.

Service Requirement:  Scholars are required to work in public service for three of the seven years following completion of this program.  Scholars who do not meet this service requirement, or who fail to provide timely proof to teh foundation of such employment, will be required to re-pay funds received along with interest.

Eligibility:

Applicants must have completed a minimum of two years of academic credit and must be a full-time student with junior-level academic standing by application deadline. A successful applicant must have an extensive record of campus and community service; a commitment to a career in government or the nonprofit or advocacy sectors; excellent communication skills; a high probability of becoming a "change agent;" and a strong academic record with likely acceptance by a first-rate graduate school.  Priority is given to candidates seeking MPA, JPP, JD, MEd, MIA, MPH, and master's or doctoral degrees in fields in which graduates go into public service.
