Marshall Scholarships

Description:

This scholarship program is very prestigious and competitive. The award enables intellectually distinguished young Americans to study in the United Kingdom to: gain an understanding and appreciation of contemporary Britain; contribute to the advancement of knowledge in science, technology, the humanities, the social sciences, and the creative arts at Britain's centers of academic excellence; and motivate the recipients to act as ambassadors from the United States to the United Kingdom, thus strengthening British-American understanding. It is also designed to promote the personal and academic fulfillment of each scholar.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be citizens of the United States. They must hold their first undergraduate degree (by the time they take the scholarship), or have graduated with an undergraduate degree after April 2006. Applicants must also carry a minimum G.P.A. of 3.7.

Award:

The value of this award is typically in excess of $30,000 and will fund two years of study in any discipline leading to the award of a British university degree.  The award usually includes funding for a personal allowance, tuition fees, and transportation to and from the United States.  It also includes claimable allowances of about $3,000 (for books, travel, preparation of thesis, etc.).
