The Thomas R. Pickering Undergraduate Foreign Affairs Fellowships

Description:

The Thomas R. Pickering Undergraduate Foreign Affairs Fellowships program is funded by the United States Department of State and designed to recruit talented students who would like to pursue a career in foreign service.  Recipients must commit to pursuing a graduate degree in international studies at one of the graduate schools participating in the program. 

Service Requirement:  Recipients are obligated to a minimum of four and a half years' service in the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service.

Eligibility:

In order to be eligible, applicants must be U.S. citizens at the time of application.  Also, applicants must be in the sophomore year of undergraduate study and have a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.2.  This minimum grade point average must be maintained throughout participation in the program.  Applicants must also posess outstanding leadership skills and demonstrate financial need.

Award:

Successful candidates receive complete funding for tuition, room, board, and mandatory fees for their junior and senior years and for the first year of graduate study.  Participants also receive reimbursement for books and for travel (one trip per academic year, up to a set maximum amount).  Participating graduate schools provide financial support during the second year of graduate study, based on demonstrated need.
