National Institutes of Health Undergraduate Scholarship Program

Description:

The National Institutes of Health Undergraduate Scholarship Program offers competitive scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical, behavioral, and science health-related research. The program includes scholarship support, paid research training at the National Institute of Health during the summer, and paid employment and training at the NIH after graduation.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or qualified noncitizens who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment as full-time students at an accredited, four-year undergraduate institution. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 or a place in the top 5 percent of their class, and applicants must be classified by their Financial Aid office as having "exceptional financial need."  Finally, a qualified applicant must demonstrate a commitment to a career in the biomedical, behavioral, or social science field.

Award:

The maximum award is $20,000 per academic year in tuition, educational expenses, and reasonable living expenses. The exact amount of each award is based on educational expenses and other sources of financial aid. Scholarships are awarded for one year and can be renewed for up to four years.
