FELLOWSHIPS and SCHOLAR PROGRAMS
Dear Student,
Welcome to the website for the Office of Fellowships and Scholar Programs. This office works with Chapman University students and recent graduates who are interested in applying for fellowships. A large number of exciting and prestigious national and international fellowships and scholar programs are available, offering research, creative, and study opportunities in the United States and overseas. Most of the fellowships provide funding for graduate school. A small number offer support to undergraduates for tuition, semester abroad, or language study. We have designed this website as a resource to help you begin your search. You will find awards that offer a wide range of opportunities for diverse interests and majors.
It is never too early to begin exploring these opportunities, and I am happy to meet with students during their first years at Chapman. We will discuss ways to develop your qualifications to the fullest by the time you are eligible to apply. This can be very helpful because competitions for fellowships are highly selective. They all require strong or outstanding academic performance. Demonstrated leadership ability and a proven commitment to service is an expectation for all fellowships and will significantly enhance your application to any. Second language proficiency is a requirement for a few programs. In addition, a number of the awards are restricted to certain majors and career paths.
All of the scholarships have specific deadlines for application, such as during the sophomore or junior years, so it is important to check these dates carefully. Even for those awards which have a fall deadline in the senior year, preparation needs to begin at least one semester earlier.
Begin your search by reviewing the fellowships that match your interests, abilities, and career goals. I also recommend, though, that during this process you look at a broad range of scholarships. You may discover opportunities that you have not previously considered, such as language study or a creative or research project abroad. Once you have identified one or more fellowships in which you are interested, please email me for an appointment.
If you do decide to apply, you will be provided with a variety of resources, including written tips as well as sample application documents (when available). I will also advise and mentor you throughout the entire process.
This list of fellowships, although extensive, is not comprehensive. If you discover another fellowship that interests you, please email me, and time permitting, I will advise you as you prepare for and complete your application.
Best wishes as you begin to review this site. Receiving one of these awards would not only provide you with financial support but also enhance your life and open new opportunities for you to further educational and career goals.
I can be reached by email at mulch@chapman.edu. I look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely yours,
Barbara Gooden Mulch, Ph.D. Director, Office of Fellowships and Scholar Programs Memorial Hall 212D |
