Studying Indigenous Languages In Peru

Go Global!
Chapman Makes the World Go Round

Welcome to Chapman. Now, get out!

Seriously. Leave. Sure, the setting at Chapman University is ideal, what with the swaying palms and the perma-sun and the primo beaches just down the road. But there's a whole world out there waiting for you. Go learn. Go teach. Go see if you can melt the GPS on your cell phone. In return, you'll gain perspective on life that you simply can't find in a classroom (even in the renowned classrooms at Chapman). You are a global citizen; prove it.

Not sure where to start? Stop by the Chapman Center for Global Education (CGE). It's your personal travel agency—minus the perky agent trying to hook you up with an AARP bus tour of the Catskills.

Want to do an internship with the Cannes Film Festival in France? C'est magnifique! Looking to tap your inner Zen on an Ancient Wisdom tour of Tibet? Namaste. How about a study abroad program in New Zealand? (It's not just for bungee jumpers anymore!) Whatever your interests, the Center for Global Education has a program for you.

Study Abroad

If the word study conjures up bleary-eyed nights buried in a textbook, just add the word abroad. It's like adding musical to high school—kind of changes the whole experience. You will have the opportunity to pursue your academic goals while absorbing the culture, politics, weather, food and art of another country.

To apply for a study abroad or exchange program, you simply need to:

  1. Be enrolled at Chapman.
  2. Be a Sophomore, Junior or Senior standing.
  3. Have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Oh, and an open mind and adventurous spirit are also helpful. Programs are offered in more than 70 countries—from Australia to Vietnam—with lengths from a single semester to an entire academic year. You could even log 24,000 nautical miles on a Semester at Sea program…and still come home with college credits.

International Internships

Remember those “What I Did on My Summer Vacation” essays back in the day? Well, going to grandma's house won't cut it anymore. An international internship will put some real grist in your mill.

More than ever, it is a near certainty that you'll someday work for—or launch/purchase/inherit—a company that has worldwide connections. Propel yourself into the global marketplace through the CGE's summer internship programs. You'll gain hands-on vocational experience while developing a nuanced understanding of the culture in which you are working.

Chapman currently offers internships in Shanghai, China; Madrid, Spain; London, England; Cannes, France; Australia; and New Zealand. You'll earn credit toward your degree while spending up to ten weeks with some of the world's preeminent corporations.

Travel Courses

What's better than touring the Galapagos Islands, walking in Darwin's very footsteps while you study his life and findings? How about touring the Galapagos, re-tracing Darwin, and getting credit for it? That's what a CGE travel course is all about. It's a mini study-abroad program—from one to six weeks—led by Chapman faculty from a variety of academic disciplines.

Such mini courses are offered during the summer or during Chapman's unique interterm in January. Some recent programs included:

Are you still reading? By now you should be browsing the CGE website, or taking passport photos, or figuring out how long it'll take to get to the Galapagos. The world is waiting for you, and Chapman U offers a variety of opportunities to explore it. So get out there already!
