Equipment Repair

PURPOSE:
To protect the university from any liability for theft, loss, damages or lost data resulting from Help Desk staff working on personal computer equipment.

POLICY:
It is the responsibility of the Chapman University Information Systems and Technology (IS&T) department to maintain the computer equipment that is the property of Chapman University or in the Student Mobile Computing Initiative program. Student Mobile Computing Initiative laptops should be brought to the Help Desk located in the basement of the Leatherby Library for authorized repair. It is not the responsilbity of the IS&T department to repair or maintain student, faculty or staff personal computers, PDAs or peripherals.

The Help Desk will attempt to repair personal equipment for only students under the following conditions:

SPECIAL NOTE:
By allowing Chapman IS&T to work on your equipment we may void any existing warranties on the equipment preventing any future warranty repair or replacement from the manufacturer or authorized repair centers.

  1. Personal equipment will receive no priority as to repair time. Repairs will be performed on an as available basis by IS&T staff or student workers.
  2. A liability waiver must be signed by the person who owns the equipment before it will be taken in for repair. This waiver will release the university from any damages to equipment, data loss, theft or damage as a result of any repair attempt.
  3. The university will not provide any operating system or application software to repair or restore the equipment to working condition. It is the responsibility of the person submitting the equipment to provide all needed software and software keys.
  4. The university is not responsible for the back up of any data.
  5. The university will not obtain or provide any parts or components needed to repair the equipment.
  6. The university will not provide any loaner equipment for personal equipment that is being repaired.
  7. All personal computer equipment taken in for repair must be checked in accordance to the Personal Computer Support policy.

LIABILITY WAIVER:
I understand that as a result of submitting my personal equipment for repair that it could be subject to loss, theft, damage or data loss. By granting Chapman the permission to work on my equipment I understand that it may void any existing warranties. My signature below is acceptance of the Personal Equipment Repair Policy and that I release Chapman University from any and all liability for attempting to repair my personal property.
