Wireless Connection (for Windows XP)

Chapman Wireless Network

Important Note: Wireless connection is not secure.
Basic Windows requirements: XP with SP2 and wireless B or better wireless network card (802.11b/g).
Step 1: Start => Control Panel

Step 2: Double-click on Network and Internet Connection for Category View mode or Internet Connection if you are in Classic View mode.

Step 3: Double-Click on the Network Connections icon
|

Step 4: Right-click on the Wireless Network Connection of your wireless network card and select Properties.
If the wireless card is not enabled, select Enable from the menu first. For Dell laptops, hold Ctrl + F2 to turn on/off wireless. Consult the manual for other ways to turn on/off the wireless features on your laptop.

Step 5: Double-click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

Step 6: Make sure settings are on Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. Click on OK to continue.

Step 7: Click on “Wireless Networks” tab. Select “Chapman University Network” from the list of available networks and click the “Configure” button

Click on the Add… button
Enter Chapman University Network for Network name (SSID)
Set Network Authentication to Open or Disabled
Set Data encryption to Disabled or None
Click OK to continue. |

Step 8: Click on the “Advanced” tab and make sure that there are no checkmarks under Internet Connection Firewall and Internet Connection Sharing.
Continue to click OK to save and close the Properties window. |

Step 9: Double-click on the Wireless Network Connection to see the status of the wireless network.
Important Note: Chapman’s wireless is not secure. |
