Configuring Outlook

Launch Outlook.

Once the program is running, click on the "Tools" menu near the top of the window.

Click on "E-mail Accounts" in the menu list.

If you do not see "E-mail Accounts" you may have to click on the double-arrow at the bottom of the menu to expand it.

The "E-mail Accounts" window will open.  Select "Add a new e-mail account".

Click on the "Next " button.

Select "IMAP" as the server type.

Click on the "Next" button.

Make sure the title of the menu says "Internet E-mail Settings (IMAP)".

Under "User Information" type in your name.

Enter your full Chapman e-mail address next to "E-mail address" (i.e. doe100@chapman.edu)

Under "Server Information", next to "Incoming mail server (IMAP)" type in "imap.chapman.edu".

Next to "Outgoing mail Server (SMTP)" type in "smtp.chapman.edu". Please note: If you are using an external ISP (Internet Service Provider, such as AOL, Earthlink, SBC, etc.) and are not using Chapman dial-up, you must contact your Internet Service Provider and ask what their SMTP server's address is. You then fill that address into the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" box.

Under "Logon Information" Your user name should be automatically entered in for you. If not, enter your Chapman user name which is the portion of your Chapman email address before "@chapman.edu" (i.e. enter "doe100" if the email address is "doe100@chapman.edu").

Enter your Chapman email password next to the "Password" field. If you wish, you may place a checkmark next to "Remember password" so that you won't be prompted to enter your password each time you check your email. It is important to note that if you check this box, anyone using your computer will be able to see your email.

Click "Next".

IMPORTANT!: Outlook will remove copies of your e-mail from the server once you have downloaded them to your computer. This means that they will only be available on the computer you are using, and will no longer be available through WebMail. If you do not want this to happen, click "More Settings" then click on the "Advanced" tab. At the bottom, there is a choice to "Leave a copy of the messages on the server." If you choose this option, you will be able to access your e-mail from both WebMail and Outlook without losing any messages.

Your Outlook application is now configured.  Simply click "Finish" and you are ready to check your email.
