Enabling/disabling Windows Firewall (Windows XP only)

Firewalls help protect your computers against hackers but an improperly configured or malfuhnctioning firewall can prevent your computer from conncting to the network. Presence of a  firewall  on residential computers prevents the Clean Access server and the clean Access client from  communicating with  each other resulting in the following error.
SecureSmart Server is not available on the network (Important Note: This error can also be caused if you are physically not connected to the network. Please check and make sure you have a good connection to the network before uninstalling firewalls.)

In order to disable the windows firewall(Windows XP ONLY)

  1. Go to My Computer -> Control Panel -> Network connections
  2. Select pick a control panel option
  3. Select Network Connections
  4. Right Click Local Area Connection
  5. Click Properties
  6. Click Advanced Tab
  7. Click Settings
  8. Select the OFF or ON radio button to turn off/on the firewall
