Virtual Private Networking Setup for Windows Vista

Open the Control Panel

Click the Start button and
then click the Control Panel. This will open the Control Panel.

Click on Network
and Internet

Click on Connect
to a network

Click on Set up
a connection or network

Scroll down and select Connect to a workplace. 
Click Next.

Click Use my Internet connection (VPN)

Enter the following information:

Internet address: vpn.chapman.edu

Destination name:
Chapman VPN

Put a check mark on
Don’t connect now; just
set it up so I can connect later.

Click Next.

Enter your Chapman’s username and password
in their appropriate fields. 
For examples, if your Chapman’s e-mail address
is jackbauer2424@
chapman.edu
, then enter jackbauer2424 in the User name field.

Click the Create button.

Click Close to return to the Network and Internet screen.  Do not click the Connect now option, the connection is not correctly setup yet.

At the Network and Internet page, click on Connect to a network located under the Network and Sharing Center.

The newly created Chapman VPN should b listed as a network option to select.

Right-click on Chapman VPN and select Properties.

Click the Options tab and uncheck Include Windows logon domain.

Click the PPP Settings… button

Ensure both Enable LCP extensions and Enable software compression options are checked.  Click the OK button.

Click on the Security tab.  Make sure the settings are the same as shown here.

Click the Networking tab.  The items listed on this tab will be different. 

Make sure the check marks are only on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and Client for Microsoft Networks.

Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click the Properties button

Make sure the settings are the same as shown here.  Click OK to close the dialog box.

Click OK to close the Chapman VPN properties box.

To connect to Chapman via VPN, click the Chapman VPN from the list and click the Connect button. 

When connecting to Chapman’s network for the first time, you might get a prompt to set up a network location.

Enter your Chapman’s username and password.  Click the Connect button to attempt to connect to Chapman VPN.

A successful connection to Chapman VPN.  You can now remote into Chapman’s servers and other resources.

To disconnect, go to the Control Panel, Network and Internet, Connect to a network, select Chapman VPN and click the Disconnect button.
