Residential Seminars

successfulmanThere are three off-site residential seminars in the program: an opening residential in San Diego, an international experience and an end-of-program trip to Washington D.C. Each is designed to enhance different aspects of the program.

The opening residential provides a great starting for the program. This residential, which takes place in beautiful Del Mar, CA, is entitled "Creating and Sustaining Competitive Advantage," and it focuses on the requirements for sustaining superior firm performance. Topics include competitive advantage and venture analysis, performance measurement, international strategy, leadership, and ethics.

Midway through the program, the class will travel to an international location. Recently students have traveled to China and Vietnam, specifically Hong Kong, , Beijing and Ho Chi Minh City. Each trip gives students the opportunity to gain first-hand exposure to the global business environment. Classes meet with a variety of internationally-focused businesses, such as Levi's, Boeing, Bank of America and Nam Tai. Trips have also included factory tours, presentations by government leaders, and a day spent at Peking University meeting with university officials and students.

The public policy class in the last semester culminates in the final residential in Washington D.C. Students choose a group project involving a legislative issue and meet with those individuals in Washington who have an impact on that issue. The trip includes meetings with legislators, researchers at think tanks, lobbyists and government administrators.
