This page lists all the classes that you can take to fulfill the Language Inquiry at Chapman University. The Language 

The Language Inquiry:

  • Is part of the Global Focus, a General Education requirement at Chapman.
  • Is designed to help you build speaking, reading and writing skills in a language other than English, as well as to learn about other cultures.
  • Requires 3 credits in total.

Some of the classes also give you the chance to study abroad.

Language Inquiry Learning Outcome


  • Students will understand, speak, read and write the target language at the intermediate or above level as defined by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language (ACTFL) proficiency guidelines.
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of culture(s) where the target language is spoken and will compare similarities and differences across languages and cultures (according to National Standards in Foreign Language Education –Known as ‘The Five Cs’).
