CoPA Faculty and Students at Operafestival di Roma
College of Performing Arts students had the opportunity to collaborate with other students from around the world and study with an international faculty of professional artists this summer in Rome, Italy. CoPA faculty member Dr. Peter Atherton, director of Opera Chapman, directed the main stage production of Die Fledermaus for Operafestival di Roma in July 2010, and faculty member Patricia Gee acted as director of the opera scenes program and as a voice teacher. Don Guy, assistant professor of theatre, and Alicia Okouchi-Guy, assistant professor of dance, were also commissioned by the Operafestival di Roma as the lighting designer and the choreographer for the production. The professors brought several of their Chapman students to work on and perform in this full-length opera. The students included technical theatre majors Trevor Weil, Maisie Chan, Christine Wille, and Jenny Ludwig; dance majors Katy Grebing, Keely Misenhimer, Kylie Chilton, and Alexi Theador; and music majors Brittany Bethurum, Sarah Horst, Neda Lahidji, Eric Parker, Alfredo Rodriguez, Molly Tomlinson, Mayuri Vasan, Kristian Villalovos and Victoria Young. The three week residency culminated with performances in the historic Palazzo della Sapienza.
