ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

Internship in Psychology may be taken on an individual basis, PSY 490, or in a seminar setting, PSY 492. In the individual setting the student is the only one signed up for this course; in the seminar, students meet with the faculty supervisor in a group. The academic requirements are usually the same for each.

While students are gaining experience in application settings, they also read and evaluate research-based materials paralleling the area of experience they are having.

Internships may be taken for one, two or three units of academic credit each semester, Summer or Interterm, with a maximum of 12 units applied toward the degree. For each unit of credit a student must complete 40 on-site hours, complete research-based reading assignments and meet with a Faculty Intership Advisor assigned.

The course is designed to complement a student’s academic program. While internships are available to all students, it is recommended that juniors and seniors complete at least one internship in preparation for graduate school or post-graduate employment. Students planning on graduate school need to have a transcript that reflects serious commitment to the field of psychology. Therefore, students may decided to take several internships.

Students are responsible for proper registration procedures, completing all student intern obligations and assignments and transporting themselves to and from the internship site. Most locations are within a few miles of the Chapman University campus. Bus service is usually available.

Internship Faculty Supervision:

On the Orange campus, Dr. Roy R. Bullock usually provides supervision for internships in psychology, however, any psychology professor who can fit this in her/his schedule can do this.
