Teaching Certificate Program


The Chapman University School of Pharmacy Teaching Skills Professional Development Program serves to enhance the teaching skills of the participant through instruction, experiences and mentoring.


  1. The resident will gain an expanded teaching skill set to utilize in a variety of roles as an educator, including lecturer, facilitator, and preceptor.
  2. The resident will be able to demonstrate their expanded knowledge in a variety of instructional settings.
  3. The resident will be able to create a teaching portfolio containing the required examples of scholarly work.
  4. The resident will possess an understanding of the skills necessary to succeed in an academic setting as a faculty member in a college of pharmacy.



 1. Teaching Workshops

Participate in pedagogy seminars throughout the year and APhA preceptor development program

2. Large Group Interactive Teaching

Develop and deliver in class lectures to student pharmacists

3. Small Group Teaching 

Deliver in-service presentations to the interprofessional team at the residency practice site

4. Other Interactive Teaching

Help facilitate workshops at Chapman School of Pharmacy for hands on instruction with student pharmacists

Participate in objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) of student pharmacists

5. Experiential Education

Precept/co-precept and mentor IPPE and APPE students at the residency site

6.  Teaching Portfolio

Develop, revise and complete a teaching portfolio
