»Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor

CES has developed two programs that allow students in School Counseling and School Psychology to meet the educational requirements to become Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC). The additional coursework required to meet the educational requirement for the LPCC is embedded into two new emphases.

  • MA in Counseling with an emphasis in Professional Clinical Counseling
  • Ed.S. Degree in School Psychology with an emphasis in Professional Clinical Counseling

The license in professional clinical counseling is a master’s level license regulated by the Board of Behavioral Science Examiners (BBSE), the same state agency that controls licensing for Marriage and Family Therapists, and Licensed Clinical Social Workers. LPCC license holders can practice counseling and psychotherapy outside the schools in private practice or clinic settings.

“Professional clinical counseling” is focused exclusively on the application of counseling interventions and psychotherapeutic techniques for the purposes of improving mental health, and is not intended to capture other, non-clinical (i.e. non-mental health) forms of counseling for the purposes of licensure.
