Prospective Student FAQs

  1. May I start the credential program in the spring or summer?
Yes, you can start any term, except for the School Counseling and School Psychology Programs.  Students admitted into these programs start in the fall.
  2. What are the admissions requirements?
Please refer to the current graduate catalog under Program Requirements or contact the College of Educational Studies.
  3. What is the cost?
Please visit the Student Business Services webiste for current tuition and fees.
  4. How long do your programs take?
Depending on course load and program a credential program without a Master's degree can be finished in 18-24 months.  Other programs, such as our Master's degrees, are two to three years, depending on course load and program.  If you would like to attend at a different pace, please be aware that students have seven calendar years to complete their required course of study.
  5. How much of my previous coursework will transfer?
Transferability of course work is subject to a number of criteria.  Transferable courses must be from an accredited university and must meet the Seven-Year Rule (seven years starts the year you take the class and ends at the completion of your program).  Courses taken also must contain the same content as Chapman's courses, and you must have received a "B" or better.  For specific questions regarding the transferability of previous coursework, please contact Dr. Mike Madrid at (714) 628-7381 at the Orange campus
  6. Do you offer any online programs/courses?
The College of Educational Studies does not offer online programs, however there are a few courses offered online, such as EDUC 531-Health Education for Teachers and EDUC 551-Educational Applications of Computers.
  7. Do you have internship programs?
Yes, the requirements are as follows:
    1. A paid position within a district that has a contract agreement with Chapman University.
    2. Satisfaction of subject matter competency (MSAT, CSET, or SSAT/PRAXIS)
    3. Satisfaction of US Constitution requirement (Political Science Class)
    4. Passage of CBEST
    5. Certificate of Clearance from CCTC
  8. I just turned in my graduate application materials, what happens next?
Once Graduate Admissions receives all of the required admission materials, they will process the information, including a GPA calculation.  You will then be notified to complete an intake interview. Once this last step is completed and you meet all of the requirements, you will be admitted to the program.

To check the status of your application, please contact the Office of Graduate Admissions.
  9. Do you offer a 2042 Clear Credential?
At this time Chapman University does not offer a Clear 2042 Program.
