What is CAIS?

The California Alliance for Inclusive Schooling (CAIS) is an intersegmental group of professionals dedicated to the development of inclusive schools for all students. Our mission is to support, unify and promote efforts to increase inclusive schooling in California. The Alliance focuses on practice in schools, policy for state recommendations, and preparation of school professionals and is comprised of three working groups: Practice, Policy, and Preparation. The Active Webinar Series is brought to you by CAIS, with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Thompson Policy Institute on Disability at Chapman University.

What are Active Webinars?

In addition to traditional live webinars with a sidebar chat moderator, the Active Webinar includes follow-up activities for those who wish additional supervised hours through specialized assignments.

Who are these webinars designed for?

School closures, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has brought about virtual classrooms throughout California for both K-12 and higher education. This has created a challenge for teachers-in-training (candidates) to complete the required clinical practice hours and observations to meet the requirements for both student teaching and residency models. The webinars are designed for candidates in all preliminary teacher preparation programs—Multiple Subject, Single Subject, and Education Specialist candidates.

Who can attend these Webinars?

Webinars are open to anyone who registers. This can include teacher candidates, mentor teachers, coaches, and or University Supervisors. Or anyone who is interested in the topic even if you are not interested in gathering required observation or clinical hours.

What is the cost?

Currently there is no cost to the active webinar participants. We thank the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Thompson Family Foundation, through the Thompson Policy Institute (TPI), for their moral and financial support during this difficult time.

What will the webinars include?

Each CAIS Active Webinar Series includes a 60-120 minute live webinar session led by an established expert in the field with online teaching experience. Each session includes suggestions for additional activity recommendations for mentor teachers, the candidate’s university supervisor, or other experienced educators which can be used toward credential/student teaching hours. All webinars will also be offered in an on-demand format (recorded version), to increase flexibility for candidates. Live closed captioning will be available for all webinars.

How do I register?

For specific information on topics and dates, or to register for the webinars please visit the California Alliance for Inclusive Schooling Website at www.inclusioncalifornia.org.

Is there a cap or limit of participants?

At this time, there is a limit of approximately 300 participants that can attend each live webinar.

What if there is no space left?

All webinars will also be offered in an on-demand format (recorded version), to increase flexibility for candidates. Materials will be referenced and made available.

What materials do I need?

All materials needed for sessions will be provided through TPI’s Padlet website.

What if I cannot attend the Live Webinar Session?

All webinars will also be offered in an on-demand format (recorded version), to increase flexibility for candidates. Each session includes suggestions for additional activity recommendations for mentor teachers, the candidate’s university supervisor, or other experienced educators which can be used toward credential/student teaching hours.

How do I get credit for my work?

All credit for meeting clinical and observation hours will be the responsibility of your supervisor. We highly recommend you work closer with them throughout this process.
